Mindful Gardening Initiative:
Creating a Farm to Table Atmosphere
Much like our own thoughts and bodies, when planting a garden, you have to get rid of the weeds.
The plants from the past year must be pulled out.
The rocks that sift to the top are like our emotional blocks and have to be removed.
The soil has to be tenderized and broken down and Room has to be made to plant the garden.
Gardening provides many benefits to youth, from team building opportunities to promoting communication.
Planning a garden and planting the seeds or seedlings provides children with a sense of responsibility and purpose. Caring for the plants by watering, feeding, and ensuring they get enough sunlight fosters mindfulness.
We have partnered with the Housing Authority in Lucas Village and Yogamour Studios to provide 2 community gardens not only to foster nurturing, patience, and growth, but also provide opportunities to overcome food insecurities where students and their families can learn sustainable living techniques by growing their own foods. This is where we encourage "Farm to Table" practices that go hand-in-hand with our Healthy Eating initiative!
Each 1 Teach 1, Inc. aims to be able to provide a Greenhouse where we are able to continue growing fresh fruits and vegetables throughout the entire year and offering a space where we can bring local people to give educational classes about gardening and healthy eating overall.
Each 1 Teach 1, Inc. youth obtain their own plot of land to cultivate their own garden and get a lesson in planting and caring for their garden from locals in the Lucas Village community!
Support our local youth by providing them with social emotional skills to find calmness, foster resilience, and overcome challenges to rise to their greatest potentials!
Your contribution, no matter the size, makes a difference in the lives of our youth by providing before and after-school trauma-informed programming with fresh, healthy snacks and drinks.
